the art of Elvie Zell
Elvie Zell first began enameling in 1976 after graduating from Cleveland State University. Her work is shown in galleries around the country and has been included in many prestigious shows including the annual May Show at the Cleveland Museum of Art and the International Enamelists Society Juried Exhibition.
The 'enamel on copper' art work Ms. Zell creates is completely hand made with great attention to detail. Think of it as a miniature painting, made with copper instead of canvas and glass instead of paint. Designs are cut from metal by hand, and the enamel is drawn and painted on in many separate applications. This is not a mass production process; it is very time consuming and exacting. Pieces are fired at least six times, and they must be filed and cleaned with each firing. The result - a unique, finely crafted work of art!
In addition to enamel pins, pendants, earrings and charms featuring lovable cats and dogs of many breeds, Ms. Zell also creates unique greeting and gift cards, and night lights.
